Learn about our pro bono services

What is pro bono?

Pro bono is short for the Latin phrase pro bono publico, "for the public good." The term generally refers to professional services that are rendered for free or at a lower cost.

Pro bono legal services refer to free legal assistance provided by lawyers to individuals or groups who cannot afford to pay for legal representation. These services are often offered to promote access to justice and ensure that vulnerable or disadvantaged individuals are not denied legal protection. Law firms can offer pro bono representation in various areas of criminal law, such as defending clients facing criminal charges, assisting with appeals, or advocating for prisoners’ rights.

Pro bono work is typically performed on a voluntary basis and is aligned with the firm’s ethical commitment to support the public interest and ensure that everyone, regardless of their financial means, can access legal representation when facing serious legal challenges. Some firms have dedicated pro bono departments or work with legal aid organisations to identify cases where free legal services are most needed.
